Engineering Week 2006 kicks off today with Paul Deuchar, Argon Technology's CEO and Chairman of Engineers Australia's Communications & Marketing Subcommittee launching the week on 'Wake Up Perth' a local breakfast television show.
Engineering Week, which runs from the 14th to 18th August, is an Australia wide initiative to promote and raise public awareness of the engineering profession, its contribution to industry and our way of life in Australia.
Engineering is an extremely exciting and rewarding industry and profession to be in. It offers excellent career opportunities and a diverse range of job prospects, from minning and remote travel site operations to international jet setting and high level technical and corporate affairs. With the current resource boom theres never been a better time to be an engineer and this week aims to give the community a look into what this industry is all about.
The week plays host to a series of events from a breakfast launch on Monday morning, through a host of events including a Young Engineers Presentation and networking evening, members night at SciTech Discovery Centre, a spaghetti bridge building competition for the south western region's primary school students and being wrapped up on Friday evening with a capstone cocktail party "Engineering is an Art" at Government House for Western Australia's Corporate elite.
