ENGINEERS AUSTRALIA is one of the world's premier engineering bodies with approximately 73,000 members nationally and over 8,500 in Western Australia. The Institution is dedicated to representing, supporting and developing the engineering profession and to encouraging engineers to strive for excellence. The Institution promotes and advances the science and practice of engineering to ensure that the community is well served by its engineering resources. It encourages the sustainable development of WA's technological capacity so that the engineering contribution to economic growth of the state is maximised.
Paul A. Deuchar has been actively involved with Engineers Australia featuring in various publications and releases of theirs over the previous years, as a result of his involvement with community and work on International Projects. "Involvement with Engineers Australia has been a great way to become involved and contribute to the Western Australian community and Engineering profession as a whole. Their programs and goals, such as youth education, driven through programs such as the Engineering Ambassadors Program and EngQuest, fall very closely to those of ours in developing Western Australia as a highly skilled knowledge hub," Paul A. Deuchar.
2005 has been titled the "Year of the Young Engineer" in a positive move to refresh the face of the engineering profession and to increase the community awareness of the significance and importance of Engineers in general to our way of life in Western Australia and Australia. The Engineering Profession has largely changed in the past decades, it is no longer just men in hard hats building bridges, dams or working on a mine site, it is inherent in every facet of life today. Engineering now covers many diverse and different areas from the traditional infrastructure works, to high tech gadgets and processes that keep you up to date with the Ins and Outs of everyday life. It is important not to forget or detract from Engineering's significant history and traditional roles which still form a major component of the industry, but to recognise the ever growing, changing dynamic face of Engineering as it currently is to society, this year is aimed at giving this a kick start. After all it is the hopes and dreams of Youth that will shape and form the future of tomorrow.
